From “Saber” to “Sabor”

Jose Andres, the master chef of World Central Kitchen, immigrated from Spain. His kitchen prepared nearly four million meals for Puerto Rico’s residents during the devastation of Hurricane Maria.

Many faceless people like Jose Andres also cooked tirelessly for us during the devastating time, no matter the time hit by Hurricane Fiona, Hurricane Ida, or the recent Hurricane Ian.

Jose “saber” (knows) the food, and he has witnessed hunger, so he starts his cooking for everyone to “saborear” (taste).
I do not “saber” (know) any cooking, nor have I experienced hunger, so I am sending my “sabor” (taste) in this tiny notecard, along with my respect and gratitude to Jose Andres as well as those faceless, tireless chef… which include my brother-in-law, my friend, and many more.

From many perspectives, this is an entirely useless card; it cannot provide nutrition nor satisfy hunger, yet hopefully, one day, someone will find it visually pleasing and soul-comforting.
